Senior project day #17

Today we went to tech lab around 9am to make sure everything looks fine with our video, after that we met with Ethany who watched our video and I am not gonna lie it was a bit nervous because we weren't sure if she is gonna like it or not. But she did liked it and she was happy about it. Then filled all of our evaluation forms and stuff and we got our signatures from Ethany. After that meeting we worked on our final essays which actually took a lot of time to finish. That is how we spent our last of the senior project. It was a fun ride and there was a lot ups and downs but most importantly we did it and that is all that matters.

Senior project day #16

So today all we did was editing, I don't have lot to say about it but we did about 4 hours of editing. It took a lot of time to cut every single clip exactly how we wanted and ordering the clips just how want was pretty hard too. Then we were struggling how to add music on final cut pro that took us about an hour to figure it out but we did it. after that it was all just playing around with the clips and music and making sure everything looks fine. After all pretty long and hard day for us but now the video is done we feel released and we excited to show our video to everyone.

Senior project weekly reflection blog #3

Last full week of senior project is done, three very different weeks lot of work and frustration but I am more than happy to say that we are almost done. At the beginning of this project I didn’t believe that it’s gonna be this much work, but it was, and it was lot of different things we had to do. But let’s get back to the final week of our project, Final week was mostly editing and putting our stuff together, we already had most of our clips from previous weeks so we spent lot of time at tech lab. My favourite part was interviews, it was a lot of fun to interview people and see what they think about proctor as a school and as a community. We interviewed two student athletes Chandler Devaney and Matt Slick who are both four year seniors here at Proctor. We asked about what proctor has given to them and it was funny because their answers were very similar to each other. We also asked about sports because chandler is the captain for boys varsity lacrosse and Matt is the captain for boys varsity hockey, so those two guys now what it takes to be a student athlete and how to take good care of school while competing on a high level in sports, like they both said it is all about how you manage your free time. After that we interviewed our headmaster Mike, it was a great interview where he told us about proctor traditions and he is expecting from student here in proctor academy. That interview is big part of our video because I think it is good when Mike is talking about his own school. That was pretty much the only filming we did this week after that we have been editing a lot and now we are at the point where we only have to do our final touches to our video to make sure it’s perfect. This week was my least favourite week because we didn’t do filming that much and we spent most of our time inside editing, but we had to do it so it was fine. Our teamwork with Jack has been working really well and I couldn’t be more happier that I was able to do this senior project with my roommate. Overall a great last week of work and we are more than ready to present our movie to all the students and parents.

Senior project day #15

Almost there, that is the thought after this day. We did our last filming today and we have all the footage and clips we need for our movie. All we have to do is line them up and add the music on the background, make sure we have good transitions so we the video will look clean and smooth. Today we spent our time editing once again. I also spent some time with algebra 2 because I have to make sure I also pass that class. We are actually still working while I am writing this blog we are trying to make a time-lapse of the thunderstorm that is going on outside. it would be pretty cool to catch that but we'll see. If anyone of you have any ideas what songs we should on our video you can suggest those on the comments. Overall a good day and it feels good that we are almost done with our senior project.

Senior project day #14

Today was an exciting day for us, we had a meeting with our headmaster Mike where we asked him questions about proctor and why students should pick proctor over other schools. We asked about proctor traditions, and What does it take to be a student here at proctor academy.  It was a really interesting meeting and I felt like it is gonna look and sound great on our video. I think it is always important to have someone who has been working the core values for this school to speak about those core values and that way make it even more clear for people what proctor is like. After that we headed to the tech lab and continued our editing, We went through the interview we did with Mike and edited that one so it looks as good as possible. Editing has been lot of fun and it's also getting lot easier than like a week ago because now we know how to actually use the final cut pro so it doesn't take that much time from us to do it. After all a solid day for us.

Senior project day #13

So today we did little bit of editing in the morning, nothing special just a little things to make our video better. After lunch we started our interviews which are big part of our video like I said in the weekly reflection blog too. We decided to start our interviews by talking to couple four year senior student athletes. First we interviewed Chandler who is a four year senior and also a captain of the lacrosse team. We asked him questions about proctor and what proctor has gave him during his four years here. We also talked about the lacrosse team and what it takes to be a part of proctor community. After that we interviewed Matt Slick, who is also a four year senior and a captain for boys hockey team. We asked him the same questions and it was funny because Matt's and Chandler's answers were pretty similar. I think that just shows us that proctor is affecting all the students in a similar way. I'm happy with our interviews and tomorrow we are interviewing The headmaster Mike. overall a great day for us.

Senior project day #12

So week number three which is also our last full week of senior project started off today, Our morning was actually little bit different than usually because we were staying at Jack's house over the weekend we got back to school this morning around 8.00 am. we woke up at 5am and drove back to school. But that didn't really affect our project that much we got some breakfast and after that we started doing our editing, we started to put our clips together and kind of see how our video is going to start. We are probably going to start our video with a interview, we are probably interview the admission office to start off the video. I think the interviews are going to make our video even better and also more exciting to watch and easier to follow too. Today was a little bit shorter than our usual day day because we didn't do any filming. We only focused on editing today to see if there is anything we have film again or something we don't wanna use. So far our video is looking good.

Senior project weekly reflection #2

Two weeks behind, little bit over one more to go. So far senior project has been great, lot of work but it has been fun. Week two was little bit different than week one. Week one was more filming and getting all the footage we might need, this week we started editing more and that’s how we spent most of our time. We also did some filming because we had some clips that we weren’t happy with so we decided film those again, like library, meeting house, and the gym. Now we pretty much have all the footage we need to finish the video, we need couple interviews and to get a little bit better storyline for our video. Editing took a lot of time mostly we because we didn’t really know how to use the final cut pro, we spent a lot of time learning how to use it and how to make the video look like we want. We still have lot of editing to do but our footage is well organized now and we already know how we wanna start and end the video.I also filmed some of my Algebra 2 class, I think it is a good thing that we have some footage from an actual class too so it shows how good job the teachers are doing here in proctor, and also how does it look inside the classroom during the class.  Highlight of this week was definitely friday when we were filming the assembly. We filmed the part when all the students are walking into the meeting house and we wanna create a time-lapse of it. We also filmed some of the announcements and the game other students played at the end of the assembly. Then we moved outside and filmed when students were leaving the meeting house and that is gonna be our othe time-lapse. We still have to figure it out how to create a time-lapse but I feel like it shouldn’t be that hard. We just have to know how to speed up the video and that’s pretty much it. We are also figuring out how to add music on the background and how to delete the actual sound from the video. But overall our second week was good, I would it was almost better than week one, and we are in a good shape of finishing our video and making sure that it’s gonna be great too and that the school will be able to use it for the new incoming students so they can see what the proctor is like. Week two was awesome and I am really looking forward for last full week!

Senior project day #11

Today we started our day by filming the assembly, it was actually a lot of fun to be in the assembly after a little break. We are planning to create a time-lapse where the seats are empty but slowly students are floating in and at the end the seats are full of people. I feel like it's gonna look great when we get it done. We also filmed the game students were playing today which looked like a lot of fun and we got some good footage from that too. Then we also filmed the people leaving the meeting house outside and that is going to be our other time-lapse. We had a little problem this morning because we realized that we are missing the part that you plug the camera into the tripod. But thanks for our great tech support we got one from Jim. After we filmed the assembly we kept editing and we also have to figure out how to create a time-lapse. But most of all we had a very successful day and we now have most of our footage we need. Now it's all about editing to make our video look good.

Senior project day #10

Today we spent majority of our time editing. We didn't do filming pretty much at all, only thing we filmed was my algebra 2 class. i decided to take the camera with me and get some footage from our class. I think it came out pretty well even know I haven't seen the tape yet because it was the last block of the day and we did our editing before that. During the editing we focused on to get all the background sounds off because we are going to put some music on the background. It's actually pretty hard to do that but I think we did pretty good job. We also realized that some our videos doesn't have sound at all because the mike was set up wrong so it didn't record the sound. We still might need  couple more clips before we have all the footage we need to finish our video. We are trying to do really good job with the editing so the video would look as professional as possible.

Senior project day #9

Today was pretty similar for what we did yesterday, We went through our clips and deleted the ones we didn't like, after that we filmed those clips again to try to make them better. Most challenging thing in this project is to make sure the clips are good and also the editing. Even know it's only week two we realized that we have to start doing lot more editing if we are going to get the video done by the end of the senior project. That is most of our days we are spending in tech lab editing our footage. It also takes some time to know exactly how to use the final cut pro. First we tried to use iMovie but we realized that the final cut pro is much better and easier to use so we switch into that. We also filmed the baseball game a little bit today. We tried to film softball too but I didn't really liked the footage we got from that game. We just have to start editing our videos as we go along so we don't have too much stuff to edit at once like we did yesterday and today.

Senior project day #8

Today we spent most of our time in tech lab doing some more editing and getting rid off the clips we didn't like. While we were doing that we accidentally deleted some clips we weren't suppose to delete. So that meant we had to do some extra filming to get those clips back. We filmed the library again and the hockey rink. I think it was actually a good thing we deleted those because the new clips we got looked much better than the first ones. After we filmed we went back to edit our footage. But most of the day we spent editing and today I really realized how much time the editing takes so we have to make sure we have enough time for that.

Senior project day #7

Our new week started off with a lot of editing, we decided to spend this first day of week two by only editing. We started to think how we should start the video and we came up with a pretty good idea that we should ask if we can use the drone to film the campus from the air. I think that would look amazing at the beginning of the video and maybe at the end of the video too. We have tot talk with Jim and ask if we can use the drone someday. We also decided to split the video in different categories, sports like boys lacrosse, girls lacrosse, baseball etc. and then all the academics and then the interviews. Most troubles we had when we tried to clear the sound of the actual video and replace it with music, but we figured it out. Now when our editing has been started we can focus more to get rest of the footage we need like interviews, and the sports we are missing. Our plan is to get pretty much all the footage we need by the end of this week so we have lot of time to edit the final video and make it look great.

Senior project weekly reflection

So our first week is done with our senior project, so far so good I would say it has been a lot of fun and lot of work. Even know it doesn’t feel like a hard work because I like our project and I like where we are heading. I feel like we are going to have a great video at the end of the senior project. During our first week we did little bit of everything, we filmed a lot, we met with our mentor, we edited some our footage and we put the clips in the order. Most of all our first week was filming obviously because we can’t really edit before we have the footage we want and need. We filmed around the campus, all the academic buildings, athletic facilities and also the highlight of first week, we filmed the trail track and the river too. We just felt like the river should be in the video because especially during the spring term students likes to go out there and spend some quality time with friends and kind of get ready for summer already. So we decided to include the river into our video too. We also filmed some of the spring sports, mostly boys lacrosse this week (probably because jack is in the team) we got some great footage from their game and practices. We also were able to film girls varsity lacrosse too which was nice because we were planning to do that next week but already got that started too. Like I said before we also got into some editing this week, not a lot but little bit we still need some more time of learning how to use the editing tool, I took the class for that last year but I need some time to catch up how to use it again. We are in a good position after our first week and i am excited to move forward in our project. Overall the first week was good and we learned lot of new things about filming. Huge shutout to Jim Cox who hooked us up with a high quality camera so if the video is not good we can’t blame our  equipments. Also our mentor gave us lot of good tips at the beginning of the week to keep in mind while filming. Next week is going to be busy for when we are starting to do our interviews and stuff.

Senior project day #5

Today we spent hours of editing and learning how to edit, we had lot of footage from this week so we had lot to do of organizing all the clips and deleting the ones we didn't wanna use. We still have some clips we have to go through tomorrow morning to make sure we get the best ones into our video. We are probably going to use the iMovie for editing, I've used it before so I know how to do it and that's what we started to do today already. Some of our clips are so long that we have to cut them. In my opinion the editing is my favorite part in this project, I like trying different things with iMovie. But most of the time today we spent organizing the clips so it is easier for us to start creating the video when it's time to get all the footage together.

Senior project day #4

Day number four was my favorite one so far, mostly because the weather was so nice today so it was way more fun to film. We kept filming the campus today, we took some more shots from maxwell and shirley hall because we wanted to film some classes in action. I filmed little bit of my old brit lit class and I think that came out well and we are gonna use that clip for sure. After that we captured some footage outside around the campus, we filmed the pond and just walked around trying to find some good spots to film because the weather so nice. After all the filming we started to plan our interviews and questions we are going to ask about proctor and why proctor community is so great. We also made a list of people we wanna interview, people from different sports, teachers, faculty members and admission. we are trying to get lots of different voices to tell us about proctor and their proctor experiences. Overall this day was great and we had a good time filming the campus.

Senior project day #3

So today we had a little bit shorter day. We filmed academic buildings, Maxwell savage, shirley hall and the meeting house. We got some good footage but we made a one little mistake by filming the buildings after classes so there was no classes going on anymore which looks kind of stupid so we might have to do another round and get those buildings while there is something going on. I just feel like it would look better in the video when we can film classes a little bit too. But also on the hand we had a chance to go into the classrooms without disturbing anyone. So we might just get some more footage from the maxwell and shirley when there is classes going on. We also filmed a little bit of softball and JV lacrosse. I just hope we could get a better weather to film outside because it's kind of depressing to film when it's rainy and cloudy outside. We also started to do some editing tonight but we are kind of lost with that right now and we have to spend some more time with that so we can edit our videos better. Overall we had a nice day and we got lot of stuff for our video again.

Senior project day #2

Our day number two started off early in the morning by going through our clips we shot last night from the lacrosse game. We went through the clips we wanna keep and maybe use in our video and also what clips we thought aren't that good and got rid of those. That's how we make sure that our clips are in order and so that way is easier for us to edit the video too when we know where everything is. After that I had to run to my Algebra 2 class form 10.35 to 11.25. After my class we planned what we should film today and decided to start our filming by showing the trail track and the bridge in the woods. After about an hour walk in the woods filming we headed back to the school and got lunch. after lunch we kept filming, we filmed the dining hall, hockey rink, weight room, basketball courts and also the lacrosse fields, softball field and baseball field. We got some good footage from our athletic facilities. After that we went through all our clips from today so we know how much footage we have. Day 2 was a lot of fun for us and we got some good clips for our video that I am excited to edit tomorrow.

Senior Project Day #1

Today was our first day of our senior project, we started our day by meeting with our mentor Ethney and we went over our project and what we should focus on. She gave us lots of good tips how to make sure that our video clips are good enough, example she told us to use headphones while recording sound so we can make sure that the quality of the sound is good enough for people to hear. After our meeting with Ethney we went to see Jim Cox to get us a camera. He hooked us up with a high quality camera so it's not about our equipments if the video is not good. After that we started planning our weekly schedule for the first week, And we decided to start by filming boys varsity lacrosse, Because Jack was playing in the game he couldn't help me film but he made the plan how we should film and when. So I went over to the lacrosse game and filmed their warm ups and also their locker room, because of the rain it was pretty hard to film because I didn't want the camera get wet in the rain. But I managed a way to get some good clips that we went through with Jack after the game. we found some issues in our clips that we can improve in the future. But overall our first day was successful and we got off to a good start with our project. We got lot of footage today and I am excited to work our project tomorrow.

Saturday, April 8, 2017

So for my senior project I'm making a video for incoming students, I am working together with my roommate Jack hounchell. We are trying to show to the new students how great place proctor is and what the life here in proctor is like.
" I'm really excited about our project with Ville and I can't wait to start this senior project" - Jack Hounchell.
